The water quality in our rivers, estuaries and seas has improved slightly over the last decades, but still it seems an impossible task to achieve the good ecological condition which is the objective of the Water Framework Directive. Governments must and will invest in further research to map sources of pollution and reduce point and diffuse sources of waste load.
Our experts are closely involved in the development and application of models that allow this complex problem to be examined, supported by field measurements. For instance Antea Group has succeeded in developing a water quality model that takes care of simulating water quality in an entire basin and that maps waste load reduction scenarios. A successful project commissioned by the Flemish government.
